How this calculator works
Margin here is net profit divided by what the customer pays (price plus shipping you charge). Fees are applied to that same total, which is how Etsy and most payment processors actually bill you. Break-even is the price where profit is exactly zero after every fee and cost.
Default fees
Etsy defaults: 6.5% transaction fee on price plus shipping, 3% + $0.25 payment processing (US), $0.20 listing fee per sale. Shopify defaults: no marketplace fee, 2.9% + $0.30 on the Basic plan with Shopify Payments. Fees change. Check your current fee schedule and edit the fields above if yours differ. Offsite Ads fees on Etsy are not included; add them under ad spend if they apply.
Where to get base costs
Pull the product price and shipping for your region straight from your supplier's catalog: Printful, Printify, or Gelato. Shipping is usually the number people forget, and it is often a third of the item cost.
